Favorite Songs

Back in probably 1995 I came up with my list of favorite songs. I was thinking tonight that I should update them:
5. “King of Pain,” The Police
4. “Band on the Run,” Paul McCartney & Wings
3. “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys,” by Willie Nelson
2. “Fool Hearted Memory,” by George Strait
1. “Margaritaville,” by Jimmy Buffett
Songs that I now think should be on the list (in no particular order…yet) are:
1. “Harvest Moon,” by Neil Young
2. “All This Time,” by Sting
3. “Change of Time,” by Josh Ritter
4. “One Hundred Names,” by The Nields
5. “Kashmir,” Led Zeppelin
There are no doubt others that I’d need to throw into the mix and sort out which ones are really the best. It’ll take some time.
What songs did I miss? What’s your favorite song?

Master of Illusion is the first thing I thought of. LOVE it! By either Clinton Gregory or Willy Nelson. Wolves by Garth Brooks. And, call me crazy, but Dear Dance by System of a Down.

I can give you a list, but they’re faves today, and likely to be different tomorrow.
In no particular order:
1. Out in the Country – Three Dog Night
2. Smokey Factory Blues – Steppenwolf
3. Unwed Fathers – John Prine
4. Someone Saved My Life Tonight – Elton John
5. Conservative Christian, Right-wing Republican, Straight White American Male – Todd Snider

I love the hell out of Todd Snider. I keep posting on his Facebook page, asking him when he’s coming to Boise.

All time absolute favorite? Probably Springsteen’s “The River” with the Joan Baez version of “Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts” running a close second.

I think you forgot to add “Having my Baby” by Paul Anka, and “I’ve Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates” by Melanie. I’m sure it was just an oversight.

Oh god Jod. “Having My Baby”: WORST. SONG. EVER. Barely ahead of “Afternoon Delight” and “If You Like Pina Coladas” or whatever that song is. Shudder.
As for favorites: Hmmm. Mine change all the time. Some that are regularly on the list, though:
“One Man Guy” sung by Rufus Wainwright.
“Lust For Life” Iggy Pop.
“Handshake Drugs” by Wilco
“Runnin out of Fools” and “Hex” Neko Case

That is a hard question. There are a few that if they come on the radio will just make my day. My favorite probably is-
In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel (And no- I’ve never seen Say Anything)

I’m glad you said that last part, because the song has totally been co-opted by the movie.

My favorite of all times – What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. I know, corny, but I love it.

Oh, that’s a beautiful song. Not corny at all.

That is a great one. And right along with that is Somewhere over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole
