This is Rocket:
He’s my sweet new boy. I have to admit, I have been obsessively checking Craigslist and the humane society webpage for the right dog. I took Junior Vox out to the adjacent county’s animal shelter yesterday and didn’t find the right dog. Today, after several hours of landscaping work and lots of playing with our springer spaniel and golden retriever, we three Voxes were sitting on the couch, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our day. Mr. Vox was actually looking up dogs on the humane society webpage.
I said, “Let’s just go over there and look.” There weren’t any new dogs on the page–they had a lot of adoptions over the last week (including Cooper! yay!) and the numbers were down. But we always have fun there, and it was worth a shot.
The first dog we saw in the kennels was Rocket. He looks just like the pit I was raised with, Muffin. We actually took his neighbor out first; she was a female who looked pretty similar, but had one ear that stuck up very endearingly. She was not super people-oriented, and we took her back inside. Then we took Rocket out, and it was all over for us. He was so, so sweet and funny. We had brought our golden with us, just in case, and I went out and got her to do an introduction. She was totally neutral to Rocket. That’s a huge improvement to how she was with Cooper.
We spent some time with one of the employees working with us through some introduction sort of exercises, and he agreed that they seemed fine with each other. So…we brought him home. He does just fine with Loki, the springer, and they’ve been doing a lot of playing and wrestling.
And now, because I like having Rocket sit next to me, all the dogs are suddenly allowed on the furniture. *shame*
